HANDS-ON INTENSIVE 1-WEEK DIGITAL FILMMAKING STARTS 31st OCT - 4th NOV

Award- winning EWAV delivers The One-Week Digital Filmmaking Workshop is the most intensive, instructional one-week program in filmmaking that can be found at any film school. In one short week, students are instructed in the basics of writing, directing, camera and digital editing, and each student writes, directs, shoots and edits a short film project. Led by renowned Filmmaker and Theatre Director Paul Sullivan.

The pace of this one-week course is feverish, and students must be prepared to live and breathe filmmaking for the length of their stay. So are you considering a new career, like a change or just want to try something different?

The workshop is offered at the (THE NEW) HACKNEY MARSHES CENTRE, Hackney Marshes Football field,  off Homerton Road, Hackney, London, E9 5PF.

OPEN TO AGES 25years and upwards.

Cost - £150

TO REGISTER - info@ewavworks.com or 0788 303 1115
Deadline 29th Oct 2011

Classes covered :-
Director’s Craft, Writing, Editing, Hands-on Camera & Lighting, Production Workshop

You Graduate With: Diploma/Certificate in Creative iMEDIA awarded by OCR, DVD Film Reel

Curriculum

The program begins with two days of intensive study in camera, writing and directing. On day three, students begin shooting their individual exercises. Day five and six are comprised of editing class, post-production and the final screening.

In the one-week workshop, each student writes, produces, directs, and digitally edits his or her own film on digital video, and rotates among crew positions when his or her classmates shoot.

Equipment and Facilities

Students use digital cameras, portable Lowel lighting packages, and Final Cut Pro digital editing systems. Classrooms are equipped with a television, DVD player and video cameras for demonstration and screening of clips.

Workshop Goal

The one-week workshop was designed to serve the needs of different types of students, yet through hands-on classes and exercises, all students gain an understanding of the requirements and rigors of filmmaking, as well as experience the exhilaration of seeing a completed project.

For some, the One-Week course is an escape vacation – an opportunity to have fun doing something completely different. For others, it’s an opportunity to see if filmmaking is the appropriate craft for them.

All students enrolling in the One-Week Filmmaking Workshop should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitations of a one-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying film and perfecting their craft. Nonetheless, many students in the One-Week Digital Filmmaking Workshop have made excellent projects and decided to pursue movie making in the future.

The London Peace Awards 2011

Last week on Tuesday 20th September, our team was invited to The London Peace Awards 2011 where we were among many nominees nominated for an award. The annual prestigious London Peace Awards 2011 was hosted by The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson at City Hall. Londoners of all ages who have made a significant contribution in the capital had the opportunity to be a recipient of the 10 award categories.

The Diversity Award category we were in was won by CLINKS Restaurant, they do remarkable work in the rehabilitation process for prisoners. We were extremely humbled and excited to receive the Certificate of Achievement which recognises the great work all nominees do within our community. It was an absolute honour to be amongst many outstanding people and organisations who were nominated. It showed that London is a phenomenal city with many individuals who are doing their bit no matter how big or small , we are all doing something.

We still have a long way to go on our journey and would not stop our work until our goal is achieved.

We would like to thank those who believed in our vision and also nominated us.

NOMS Information Event - Can Social Enterprise work with the Prison and Probation Service?

The report ‘Reducing Re-offending Through Social Enterprise’ identifies that there are considerable opportunities for more social enterprises to work with prisons and probation services.  However, it also identifies some barriers including the fact that few people working in prisons and probation services have a clear idea of how to make contact with social enterprises in their area.

Lola Atkins from EWAV Works would be delivering a presentation to the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) on the services we have delivered at HMP YOIs on 2nd June 2011 at Somerset House, Strand, London.

EWAV Works awarded by BBC Children in Need

EWAV Works in London are delighted to announce that BBC Children in Need have awarded them a grant over three years. This grant will help EWAV Works continue to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

This spring allocation is the second of four rounds of grants which are made possible thanks to the amazing 2009 Appeal total of over £20.3 million – which has risen since November to a record breaking £39 Million.  Following the Appeal night last November, BBC Children in Need has received additional donations from fundraisers, schools and businesses from all across the UK who all got together and showed their love for The Bear!

With the support of BBC Children in Need, EWAV Works will be able to continue reaching out to the youth through delivery of training in Animation, Digital graphics, modern film making techniques, and digital media in particular. EWAV aims to empower young people to cope with today's social challenges by creating opportunities that develop them as individuals and prepare them for the future. EWAV gives participants the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of Animation, Motion images production, Film and Cinematic activities. Our programmes provide the opportunity for participants to meet others who face similar challenges and to socialise, learn and participate in activities that will assist them in making career choices

Lola Atkins, the Project Director at EWAV Works said “We could not reach out to the children without the support of BBC Children in Need. Our experience of working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds stems from previous youth focused projects such as the delivery of activities in youth offender institutions which has enabled us to build a creditable knowledge and experience resource database that we use to help develop initiatives that make a positive impact with and for young people. This grant will go on to change the lives of so many children and give them the support they need.”

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need, said; “Our grants are made possible by the amazing generosity of the public and our donors. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to help such great projects as EWAV Works continue to help change young lives for the better.”

Since November, the BBC charity has received thousands of applications for funding.  These are rigorously assessed and considered in the months leading up to the grant allocation by eight committees who pass on their recommendations to the Trustees of the charity.

All grants go to projects working with children and young people who may be affected by homelessness, neglect, abuse or poverty, or those who have encountered serious illness, disabilities and psychological disorders.

Journey so far......

2011 has been a bit nerve-wracking here at EWAV. The government cuts in every area you can think of  slowly swept into our affairs which caused a lot of dismay. The fear of loss of contracts and partners was high on our lists, sadly majority did materialise. However due to the fact we was given the heads up last summer we was kind of prepared but not fully prepared.

People always say that when a company, organisation experience an event or calamity that brings it literally to its knees, normally bounce back stronger and better. To be honest, doubts did sink in. Would EWAV have to roll up her sleeves and shut the doors like so many others businesses across the country? Or would we radicalise the way we do things and try out a new strategy which may be uncomfortable at first but bring the best out of us. We chose the latter.

The new website would be coming soon showcasing the new services we deliver and hopefully this would be the making of us and propel us to higher heights :)

Success always comes out of calamity, so let the show begin.
